A Little Bit About Franklin County

Franklin County was erected and established in 1875, four decades after the independence of Texas, from land ceded by neighboring Titus County. Although the origin of the county's name is not recorded, it is generally believed to have been named after Judge Benjamin C. Franklin, the first appointed justice in the Republic of Texas. The county seat is Mount Vernon. The first settlers arrived in 1836.

Welcome to the Franklin County TXGenWeb site. My name is Angela Hartman and I am the Volunteer County Coordinator. I have a family connection as well. My ancestors came to Franklin Co. in the late 1800s. The maiden name of my ancestors were WILLIAMS, who married into the GUTHRIE, and WHITEHORN families.
I do not live in or near Franklin county, therefore, I can not do local lookups or research.
