A Brief Biographical Sketch

For

Mrs. Lovie M. Proctor (Cornish Thompson)

Submitted by:  Sheryl Jones, Great Granddaughter

Lovie was born on January 25, 1907 in Freestone County, Texas to Nettie Cornish-Barrow and Bud Thompson. She was the second eldest of seven children.

At the tender age of 14, she united in marriage with Albert Keeton. To this union two children were born, Lyla Mae Keeton-Phillips and Erma Lee Keeton-Lewis. In May of 1926 she was united in holy matrimony with William Edward Proctor. To this union no children were born, however, together they joyfully adopted Mary Helen Malone and reared Carol Denise Gordon.

She accepted Christ into her life at an early age and was a member of the Church of God in Christ #1 of Fairfield, Texas. Lovie's life was exemplary of a true servant of God. Her spirit of servitude inspired her to work in various capacities within the Freestone County community. As a pioneer in the African-American community, she established one of the first general stores. She later served as a domestic worker and nanny for many prominent families for numerous years.

On Saturday, March 27, 2004, in Ft. Worth, Texas at the Estates of Fort Worth Health Center, the Angel of Silence summoned her from labor to reward.
