Peatown Cemetery

This is an updated reading of Peatown Cemetery by Judy Greenway, Sharon Pierce and granddaughters Bre & Kayla on 10-8-2000. Many thanks go to Gloria Mayfield and Angela Smith Berkan for their earlier readings.

HISTORY: Hayden Edwards (signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence) supported Peatown for many years before he moved to the Nacogdoges area. Peatown was named because so many farmers raised peas and everyone used to say they were going to Pea Town to buy peas and the name just stuck. Area folks were baptised in the Spring, (called the blue hole) that the marker talks about. There was a school just across the street from the cemetery, elementry school only, and the older children had to go to Longview for High School.
