Gladewater - The Refinery Center of the East Texas Oil Field

Situated on the west side of Gregg County, Gladewater is the gateway to mighty East Texas Oil Field and has within its trade area about one forth of the production of the entire field; there are approximately 175 oil wells within the city limits. Gladewater is now the refining center of the worlds largest oil field, having in or near the city thirteen refineries and many more in prospect.

Located at the intersection of two US highways, numbers 80 and 271, and on the main line of the Texas & Pacific Rail Road, the city has splendid transportation facilities, and with its abundance of natural resources offers the best opportunity of any place in East Texas for industrial sites.

Gladewater has one of the best school systems in Texas with and enrollment of more than 2200 pupils, and a faculty of 50 memebers, every one with a college degree. By May 1, 1933, the system will be housed in its new $130,000.00 high school building. 

Gladewater has 5 churches with large and growing congregations; a new $25,000.00 Baptist church building is now under construction.

A new City Hall has just been completed, which houses all departments of the municipality, including the police and fire departments. 

Gladewater has unexcelled retail stores of every line, each well filled with quality merchandise and managed by courteous, energetic public spirited business men.
