She went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 10, 2006. Mrs. Cooper was a lifelong resident of Longview and member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church for many years. She married O.A. "Toby" Cooper on August 16, 1946. She was very civic-minded and devoted her life to the community. Mrs. Cooper served the citizens of Gregg County as their district clerk for 36 years, and worked for the county for 52 years. She was awarded the honor of "District Clerk of the Year" for Gregg County and District Clerks Association of Texas in the year 1987. She served on the legislative committee for many years with the association and numerous other committees throughout her years of service. She was director for Area VI for the association and participated on many educational panels. Ruby was an outstanding member of the Longview Pilot Club and was awarded "Pilot of the Year." She joined the Longview Pilot Club in 1967, and had 37 years of perfect attendance, and she also served as president. She always participated and served her famous "chicken spaghetti" that the community supported. She served as co-chairman for "The Taste of Longview." Mrs. Cooper devoted her time to help others, such as the anticipated bingo games that the Pilot Club members would help conduct at Highland Pines Nursing Home. The residents looked forward to seeing her come and spend time with them. She had touched many lives throughout the years and through her illness, there were many that had remembered and took great care for her. We want to thank all who helped her through her illness. She was well-known all over the state from the governors of Texas to the customers who came and paid their child support in the clerk's office. She was a member of the Gregg County Democrats and the Texas Democratic Women. She was a charter member of the Longview Lady's Investment Club. Mrs. Cooper is survived by her husband of 59 years, O.A. "Toby" Cooper; sisters, Ruth Jones of South Haven, Mississippi, and Mildred Bonner of Flatwoods, Kentucky; brothers and sister-in-law, W.E.
