Crowson, David Lee

A memorial service for David Lee Crowson, 53, of Longview, 
will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2007, at First 
Baptist Church of Longview, following a private burial 
service at Rosewood Park Cemetery, under the direction of 
Rader Funeral Home. David died Tuesday morning, February 
27, 2007, following an early morning walk with his brother, 
Ken Crowson of Longview. David Crowson was born January 15, 
1954, in San Juan, Texas. A graduate of Delhi High School 
in Delhi, Louisiana, he attended the United States Naval 
Academy before receiving his BBA from Baylor University in 
1976. He earned his juris doctor degree from Baylor School 
of Law in 1979. Board certified in estate planning and 
probate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, 
David was recognized as one of the finest attorneys in East 
Texas. Just as significant as his service to his clients, 
was his desire to be of service to the community. He served 
on numerous local boards and projects, including tenure as 
chapter chairman of the Red Cross, a member of the Longview 
Parks and Recreation Board and co-chair of the United Way. 
He was an adjunct professor at LeTourneau University for 25 
years, teaching business law. At the time of his death, he 
was president of the Highway 80 Rescue Mission, a member of 
the Pine Tree ISD Foundation and served as president of the 
Pine Tree ISD Board of Trustees. He will be remembered as 
the "Voice of the Pirates," serving as PA announcer for Pine 
Tree athletics for more than a decade. Of deepest importance 
to David was his faith in his Lord Jesus Christ. He was an 
example of living a Christ-filled life to his family and to 
all those who knew him. He was a deacon at the First Baptist 
Church of Longview, serving as chairman in 1993. David taught 
Sunday school at First Baptist Þ ¤ Church for more than 25 
years, served on countless committees, and was deeply committed 
to the mission work of the church, including annual 
participation in World Changers, where he renovated and roofed 
houses for underprivileged families around the country. To have 
known David Crowson is to be comforted by Phillipians 1:21, 
"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." It is how he 
lived his life. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles 
F. Crowson Jr. David Crowson is survived by his wife of 26 years, 
Jane Ann Crowson of Longview; sons, David Luke Crowson of Dallas 
and Andrew Lee Crowson of Auburn, Alabama; and daughter, Cara 
Jane Crowson of Auburn, Alabama. He is also survived by his 
mother, Vivian Crowson, and mother-in-law, Elaine Whitley, both 
of Longview; brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Natalie Crowson 
of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Curry Crowson of 
Longview; and sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and David Johnson 
of Midland. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Robert Allen 
Whitley of Gunter, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pate 
Chumley of Dallas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and 
nephews, including, Laura Lester, Emily, Jennifer, Anna and Sarah 
Johnson; Charlie, Henry and Mary Madison Crowson; Mitchell, Tres 
and Sheree Whitely; J.J. Edge; Robyn Underwood; Jordan Chumley; 
and special great-niece, Kaitlyn Whitely. Sixteen years ago, his 
children wrote of their father, "He is a good Christian and 
teaches us about the Bible. When you need someone to talk to, he 
is always there. The greatest thing about our Dad is that he 
loves us a lot. He also loves our Mom a lot. We love him a whole 
bunch. His name is David Lee Crowson." These words as true on 
the day he died as they were on the day they were written.
