Hays, Bonnie Louise Fears HOUSTON -- Bonnie Louise Fears Hays passed away December 16, 2006, after a year-long battle with cancer. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Oren W. Fears and Veda Davidson Fears; and her husband of 45 years, James Lloyd Hays. Born July 20, 1930, in Carthage, Texas, Bonnie grew up in Longview, Texas, where she graduated from Longview High School and later met and married her beloved, James, in 1950. Bonnie and James, after a short stay in Corpus Christi, Texas, were transferred by Atlantic Richfield, ARCO, to Silsbee, Texas in 1957, where they made their home and raised their children. In 1973, Bonnie, together with her husband and Marjorie and I.F. Eldredge, opened Hays-Eldredge Real Estate, which served the Silsbee community until 1990. Both Bonnie and James were active in the local and regional community. In 1991, Bonnie and James purchased a long-dreamed of lake home on Lake Cherokee outside of Longview, Texas. After James' death in 1995, Bonnie began volunteering at Longview Regional Hospital and eventually moved into Longview proper, where she later volunteered at the Gregg County Historical Museum. Bonnie is survived by her son, James G. Hays and wife, Sherry of Tampa, Florida; daughter, Veda A. Abshire and husband, O.J. of Laporte, Texas; daughter, Kathryn Arleigh Hays of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Heather M. Scoggins and husband, Scott of Cumming, Georgia; grandson, Bryan C. Abshire and wife, Amanda of Baytown, Texas; grandson, Cris A. Green and wife, Sarah of Maypearl, Texas; granddaughter, Peggy E. Brown of Arlington, Texas; great- granddaughter, Kayla K. Brown of Arlington, Texas; great- granddaughter, Gracie J. Green of Maypearl, Texas; great-grandson, Hays H. Scoggins of Cumming, Georgia; brother, Joe Wallace Fears and wife, Juanita; nephews, Joe Wallace Fears Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Richard Wayne Fears and wife, Dana of The Colony, Texas; along with extended family members and friends. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, December 30, 2006, at Welch Funeral Home in Longview. Interment will follow in Magrill- Moore Cemetery of Longview.
