Lemons, W.C. GLADEWATER - Funeral services for W.C. Lemons, 74, of Gladewater, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Gladewater, with the Reverend Michael Darden officiating. Interment will follow in Sabine Valley Cemetery. Mr. Lemons joined his wife, Jewel, in God's heavenly kingdom on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, after suffering from heart complications. W.C. was born August 24, 1933, in Gladewater, to Jewel Coxson Lemons and William Lemons, who preceded him in death. He attended Gladewater schools and graduated from Weldon High School in 1951. On December 15, 1955, he was united in marriage to Geraldine "Jewel" Norman, who preceded him in death on September 8, 2007. Known throughout the greater Gregg County area, his classmates and peers affectionately called Mr. Lemons "Dub." W.C. began work at Handy Dandy grocery store in 1953, until 1969 when he went to work for Crystal Oil Co. in Longview until its closing. For many years, W.C. worked days at Gladewater Country Club, maintaining the well-kept greens and nights at Lambert's Liquor where he took care of all the general store needs. After the liquor store was sold in the early 1990s, W.C. continued working for the Gladewater Country Club. W.C. is survived by his sisters, Cassie Mae, Arma Jean, Artensia Ruth and Jewel Lean; his brothers, Willie C., Oscar Lee, Ray and James; his loving children, Rodney Lemons and his wife, Rona, Sharion Lemons, Conebra Darden and her husband, the Reverend Michael Darden, Norris Lemons and his wife, Mamie, Randolph Lemons, and Debra Hawkins and her husband, Dana; his mother-in-law, Mabel Moore; his brother-in-law, Donnie Norman; his sister-in-law, Shirley Taylor; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his dog that he warmly referred to as "Sambo." He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
