Parra, Gilbert G. Graveside services for Gilbert G. Parra, 84, of Longview, will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2006, in Rosewood Park mausoleum chapel with Father Mark Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park. A rosary will be recited by Father Gavin Vavarek at 6 p.m. today, July 16, in the chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. today prior to the rosary. He passed away Friday, July 14, 2006, at his residence in Longview. Mr. Parra was born the ninth of 12 children to Maria and Lorenzo Parra on February 3, 1922, in Don-Tol, Wharton County, Texas. He had been a resident of Longview for the past four years, moving from Texas City. He was a painter and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Edward Maldonado of Longview; son, Robert Parra of Houston; grandchildren, Jason and Miranda Maldonado of Houston, Tiffany and Jeff Knox of Dallas, and Leslie Ann Maldonado of Longview; sisters, Alice Cook and Ventura Cook, both of Houston; extended family, Lucy and Jesse Ramirez of Galveston, Sonya Garza of Galveston, Joseph and Michael Estrada of Houston, Edmund Ramirez of Houston, Roger Ramirez of San Francisco, and Natalie Moya of Pearland, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Texas Home Health Hospice, Dr. Taylor, Dr. Koya and the staff of Longview Cancer Center, and to their friends and neighbors for their loving care and concern during this difficult time.
