Simmons, Maurice Allen Funeral services for Maurice Allen Simmons, 81, of Longview, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at Little Flock Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Veazy officiating. Burial will be in Rosewood Park. Services are under the direction of Welch Funeral Home. Mr. Simmons died Saturday at a Tyler hospital. He was born February 27, 1924, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to James Levi and Pearl Edith Bair Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a resident of Longview since 1965, coming from Columbia City, Indiana, to teach at LeTourneau. He graduated and taught at Indiana Tech, had a masters degree from Purdue and attended Vanderbilt University. He was an electrical engineer for LeTourneau Inc., working until August 2005. Mr. Simmons served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a member of Little Flock Baptist Church. Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife, Bobbie Simmons of Longview; daughters, Becky Fisher of Longview, and Suzie Sites of Las Vegas, Nevada; sons, Robin Simmons of Las Vegas, Nevada, James Gibson Jr. of Longview, and Richard Gibson of Illinois; sister, Hazel Leininger of Colorado; grandchildren, Angela McKinney of Longview, Peter Sites of California, Melissa Simmons of Houston, Janna Simmons of Kilgore, Adrienne Deason and James Gibson III of Longview; and great-grandchildren, Kaila and Jessi McKinney, Cade and Sabra Deason, and Parker and Preston Simmons. The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. today, February 6, 2006, at the funeral home.
