Smith, Julian B. "Jack" Julian B. "Jack" Smith passed away May 18, 2006, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. He was born April 3, 1927, in Kilgore, to Samuel and Gladys Goforth Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Truman and Donald Smith. He grew up on the family farm on Goforth Road in Gregg County and was a graduate of Sabine school in Liberty City. Mr. Smith was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. Mr. Smith, known to many as "Sundown," had a long career as a heavy equipment operator beginning in the early 1950s and retired at the age of 75 from Marion County Precint One. Mr. Smith is survived by five children, Martin Glen Smith and wife, Margaret, Samuel Smith, Margaret McCarty, Elizabeth Field, and Gloria Scoggins; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Jack, a devoted husband, was married to Clara Jane Webb Smith for 33 years and was a supportive father and grandfather to her children, Donna Worrell and husband, Malcolm, Joyce Phillips and husband, Richard, Janice Hart and husband, Billy Wayne, Janie Yesford, John Webb, and Steve Webb; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A family memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at Mount Moriah Cemetery on Goforth Road. A memorial guestbook may be signed online at www.raderfh.com.
