Tate, Dakota Lane Dakota "Kota" Lane Tate, 4 years old, of Longview, lost his battle with cancer and passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006, at his grandmother's home in Hallsville. Dakota was at Children's Medical Center in Dallas since December 2004, and had just come home to East Texas when he was re-diagnosed with cancer in February 2006. A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at Winterfield Cemetery, with Chaplain Bryan Peck officiating. Preceding Dakota in death were his brother, Matthew Tate; great-grandparents, Clarence and Peggy Lehr; great-grandfather, Winston Tate; and great-grandfather, R.L. McFarland Jr. Survivors include his father, Kevin Tate of Gladewater; mother, Chrystal Wardlaw Tate of Longview; maternal grandparents, Tommy and Terri McFarland of Hallsville; paternal grandparents, Steve and Sandra Tate of Gladewater; sister, Abby Tate of Longview; brother, Tyler Tate of Longview; aunt, Mollee McFarland of Longview; uncle, Sgt. Thomas McFarland and wife, Angela, of Beaufort, South Carolina; aunt, Dharya Tate of Gladewater; uncle, Steven Tate of Gladewater; great-grandmother, Ruth Clanton of Marshall; great-grandmother, Wanda McFarland of Hallsville; a few of his close, special friends, Cory Phillips of Hallsville, and Rhonda, Jennifer, and Richard Cecil of Longview; along with numerous great aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family gives special thanks to Children's Medical Center in Dallas, and Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. The family will receive friends 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, April 4, 2006, at the funeral home, 4619 Judson Road.
