Jim Reeves, CW recording star Jim Reeves, his wife Mary, and Tom Perryman are standing in front of radio station KSIJ,  Gladewater, Texas. Cecil Greer took this picture, probably in 1949 or 1950. -
Madell Smith aCa. 1930; Madell Smith from Gladewater standing in front of the Hughey (Huey) School; She went to the College of Marshall; Her teaching certificate says she had 2 years approved college work from the College of Marshall, which became the East Texas Baptist College; I think the name has been changed again; She evidently taught 1931-1933; She married Roscoe Ferguson, who worked for Tidal Pipeline Company at Joinerville on June 1, 1933; They had two children Sara and Wade. Update: The Hughey (Huey) School was located on Hwy 42 before you get to I-20. It is now the Gregg County Home for the Aged. Thanks to Sara Barnett for sending in this information on her mother.

MSGT Travis Watkins Master Sergeant Travis Watkins of Gladewater, Texas -- Medal of Honor.  On Sept 3, 1950, near Yongsan, Korea, Sergeant Watkins was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down.  Ordering his squad to pull out and leave him, he stayed behind and died covering their withdrawal.  -
