Bakery Token A Weyrich's City Bakery Tokens.  Year unknown.
Two different tokens for the same business: One scolloped with 'A. Weyrich City Bakery' on one side and 'Good for 1 Loaf of Bread' on the other. The second token is octagonal, the size of a quarter, and reads Good For 1 Loaf City Bakery' on one side and a large "W" on the reverse. Mr. Weyrich operated the City Bakery in Longview Texas during the first couple of decades of the 20th century. It is said Mr. Weyrich baked these tokens into a few loaves of bread every week, so you always had the chance of winning a free loaf every time you bought one

It has been pointed that these tokens were most likely used first in Greenville, Texas, where a Mr. A. Weyrich had the City Bakery from the early 1900's through the mid 20's. His son, A. P. Weyrich, came to Longview where he also had a bakery and, continued to use the same tokens.

Sweet Potato Farm Longview area sweet potato farm & workers Thanks to Kathy Wells for this great picture.
Longview Sawmill Workers are shown inside the Longview sawmill, located on South Mobberly Avenue in the early years before the depot was moved. After the depot was moved, it was much easier to transport lumber from the yard to the railway. Linda Lamanick
