Early Longview School Classes
Pre 1880 First Longview School
See bottom of page for 1887 School Program

The first Longview School, above, located on the corner of Green & Tyler St., was built prior to 1880. It also housed the Male & Female High School which announced in the May 8th issue of The Texas New Era paper in 1880 that "Our Motto is a lively School, the hope of the world". They also stated that the tuition would remain the same at $200, $2.50 & $3.00 a month. The Longview Male & Female Institute was established under the thumb of Professor J.M. Green, and had its first classes on September 7, 1874.

Other early schools included the first Longview High School which opened in 1890, a 2 room school operated by Miss Sarah Teague and Miss Molly Teague at the corner of Magrill and 7th St., Miss Callie McCall's private school at East Whaley & 1st St., Mrs. Leak's school, and a school operated by the Masonic Lodge.
