From Celina, 30 - 8
Devils Catch 'The Devil'
By Bob Hutchinson

Celeste--The Celina Bobcats pounded their way to an impressive 30 - 8 victory over the luckless Celeste Blue Devils here Friday night.

The Bobcats opened the scoring late in the second quarter when David Tolleson rambled thirty-two yards on a "crossbuck" to the double stripe. Otherwise, the first half was pretty evenly matched. Celina had one touchdown called back on a clipping penalty, as did Celeste.

Pep Talk

Coach S. L. Fuller must have had a few choice words for his Blue Devils during the half - time intermission for they wasted little time in tying the score 8 - 8. Little Jackie Arnwine took the Bobcat kickoff on his own twenty - two and returned it to the thirty - four yard mark. Donnie Evans, the Celeste workhorse, found running room around his own left side on the next play. There was no stopping the speedster as he moved the entire sixty - six yards in record time. Arnwine hit Evans for the two extra points.

But, the Celeste tally seemed only to inspire the Bobcats to work even harder for their next touchdown. Twelve plays and five first downs later, they had moved ahead 14 - 8. Ronnie Davis, and Tolleson hit the Blue Devil's line with amazing consistency for gains of four to six yards. It was Davis who finally crossed the big mark on a ten - yard jaunt. Tolleson added the extra points, making the score 16 - 8.

Quick Six

From then on, it was only a matter of time for the Blue Devils. Heavy penalties prevented the score from mounting even higher. The Bobcats took the ball on the Celeste forty - six and three plays later had added another six points. Davis and Tolleson found plenty of running room around the edges for the tally.

Opening the third quarter, Celeste took possession on its own twenty - five. Evans picked up two yards followed by Arnwine and Pruitt. The Bobcats drew a fifteen - yard penalty before Evans added another yard. On the next play, Arnwine was stopped cold, but Mike Weatherley tossed a pass to Jimmy Lowe for four yards. It wasn't enough and the Blue Devils were forced to punt.

Celina moved quickly for two first downs, despite a fifteen - yard penalty. The Celeste defense stiffened somewhat and in two plays the Bobcats were forced to give up the pigskin on downs.

Devils Bog Down

A Blue Devil pass fell incomplete, but Arnwine picked up a first down. Another pass from Weatherley to Jimmy Patterson was batted down on the next play. Weatherley found Evans in the open for three yards. The Weatherley - Patterson pass combination missed again, and the Blue Devils drew five yards for being offside. The third try for a pass to Patterson also failed and the Bobcats took over on downs on the midfield stripe.

The final Celina touchdown came in the closing minutes as a result of a Celeste fumble. Tolleson picked up gains of five and six yards, interrupted by two penalties for twenty yards. Mike Bratcher filed a short pass to Tolleson, which he promptly converted to a thirty - five yard touchdown run. Tolleson also added the extra points making the final score, 30 - 8.
