Texas Private Killed When Army Car Skids

Monterey, California, December 27, 1940--Private William Griffith, 22, of Celeste, Texas, was injured fatally on Friday when his Army reconnaissance car hit a pole north of Castroville after the machine skidded on wet pavement. Sergeant E. Melzer and Private Donald J. Cook were taken to Monterey Presidio Hospital where attendants said they would recover. all three belonged to the Thirty-Second Infantry Service Company, stationed at Fort Ord.
