Mrs. Mollie Olivia Salter Battle

Services were held Thursday, March 6, 1947, at the Hickory Creek Baptist Church for Mrs. Mollie Battle, 81, who died Wednesday, March 5, 1947, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marvin Grisham.

Mrs. Battle, a charter member of Hickory Creek Baptist Church, had been blind for seven years and bedfast for more than two years.

The Rev. Smart, local pastor, and the Rev. John Salzmann, former pastor, officiated. Burial followed in Spring Creek Cemetery.

Bearers were Trude Lattimer, Jack Hutcheson, Roy Butler, Drue Simmons, Dwight Bicknell, and Mr. Cline.

Mrs. Battle, the former Mollie Olivia Salter, was born on November 29, 1865, in Alabama. She moved with the family to Texas in 1886 and settled in the Savage community.

She and H. L. Battle were married on October 10, 1886. They are the parents of nine children. Four children, Edwin Battle, Thomas Battle, Jessie Battle, and Mrs. Rosaline Thurman, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Battle had lived in the vicinity of Hickory Creek since 1886. Her husband died on June 2, 1934.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Grisham, Mrs. Neil (?) Puckett of Weatherford, and Mrs. Hallie Cursey of Chico, California; two sons, Bill Battle of Big Springs and Jim Battle of Dallas; twelve grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
