Sarah Elizabeth (Bettie) Harbert Byers

Mrs. A. J. Byers, 83, a resident of Celeste since 1895, died at her home in Celeste at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 16, 1954.

Funeral services were held at 2:00, Wednesday, March 17, 1954, at the Church of Christ here with Stanley J. Lovett of Dallas and W. W. Kirk of Greenville officiating. Burial was made in the Dulaney Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Hubert Shields, Joe McKee, George McGee, Clyde Heflin, Calvin Stapleton, and Roy Stapleton.

Born at Green Forest, Arkansas on August 23, 1870, Mrs. Byers was the daughter of John Harbert and Mary Matlock Harbert. She was married to A. J. Byers on October 27,1895, in Hunt County, Texas, and he preceded her in death in 1928. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors in include two sons, Harbert S. Byers of Celeste and A. J. Byers of Yuma, Arizona; four daughters, Mrs. John Dotson and Miss Allegra Byers of Celeste, and Mrs. Arthur Holmes and Mrs. Charles Walker of Edinburgh; and two sisters, Mrs. W. F. Bell of Paris and Mrs. A. C. Oxley of San Antonio.
