John Wesley Chaney

Funeral services for John W. Chaney, 67, who died at his home at 3615 Lee Street, Greenville, Sunday, May 23, 1954, were held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 25, 1954, at the Baptist Church in Celeste with the Rev. Earl Allen, pastor, officiating. Burial was made in the Lane Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Byird Glasscoe, Pete Hudson, Oral Smith, Grafton Barnett, Tom Sparks, and John Cawthon.

Arrangements were in charge of James-Coker-Peters.

Mr. Chaney was born on February 7, 1887, near Blue Ridge, the son of George Chaney and Sarah Green Chaney. He had spent most of his life in Hunt County and had made his home in Greenville since 1942. He was married to Hattie Mercer in 1925.

He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Surviving are his widow; two sons, J. M. Chaney of Irving and W. T. Mercer of Grand Prairie, daughters, Mrs. W. W. Pittman of Greenville, Mrs. W. P. Borders of Irving, Mrs. L. E. Linton of Celeste, Mrs.Sue Wren of Quornado, New Mexico, Mrs. C. M. Taylor of Dallas, Mrs. F. E. Wallace of Azle, Texas, and Mrs. O. W. Ingram of Garland; his mother, Mrs. Sarah Chaney of Greenville; and one brother, G. M. Chaney of Celeste; two sisters, Mrs. C. A. Quick of Coolidge, Arizona and Mrs. John Sellars of San Marcos; and three grandchildren.
