Edwin B. Averitt Jr., 82, of Greenville died the morning of Sept. 5, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Kavanaugh United Methodist Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Goodwin will officiate. Burial is in Forest Park Cemetery. The son of Edwin Butler and Mary Faye Jones Averitt, he was born May 25, 1924, in Greenville. On May 29, 1948, he married Margaret Louise Abbott in Kavanaugh United Methodist Church in Greenville. Mr. Averitt served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a placement counselor for Texas Workforce Commission. Mr. Averitt was a member of Kavanaugh United Methodist Church, American Legion and Sons of DeMolay. Surviving are a son, Russell Averitt of Irving; two daughters, Carol Fowler of Littleton, Colo., and Judy Klopfenstein of Dallas; and grandchildren Michael Averitt of Austin, Rachael Klopfenstein, Rebecca Klopfenstein and Jennifer Klopfenstein of Dallas and Amy Fowler and Devin Fowler of Littleton, Colo. He was preceded in death by his wife on May 14, 2006, and by his parents. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Michael Averitt, Ray Dooley, Devin Fowler, Russell Fowler, Brent Klopfenstein and Roy Martinez.
