George Droll, 83, of Greenville died Jan. 21, 2007.

Mr. Droll was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Indianapolis, Ind. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He worked as a printer for more than 40 years in both the newspaper and yearbook industry, primarily at Taylor Publishing Company.

Mr. Droll was very active in the Dallas Litho Club and the Printing Industry of Texas Association’s large press school where he helped train a generation of new printers.

An avid reader of American history, George was well known around Greenville for his vegetable gardens and letters to the editor.

He is survived by his children, Georgianna Harrison and husband Jerry of Greenville and John Droll and wife Kate of Italy, Texas; three grandsons, Harvey Droll and wife Lori of Lufkin, Joshua Droll and wife Amber, children Reagan, Tatum and Mia Kate of Italy, Texas, and Jordon Droll of Italy; one brother, Harold of Kokomo, Ind.; sisters Thelma Ratliff of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mary Hughes of Martinsville, Ind.; and his dog Buster.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannine Strickland Droll; his parents, Walter A. and Ada Bernice Droll; four brothers and two sisters.

George requested memorial donations be made to Vista Care Hospice or Carter Blood Bank.

A memorial service is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lynch Funeral Home in Cash.

Honorary pallbearers are Buck Evans, Randy Black, J.W. Reeves, Leo Bryant, Doyle Currin and Larry Black.
