Hugo Alexander Berger, 94, of Greenville, passed away on Wednesday at a local hospital.

Funeral services are today at 10 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Marc Hander officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland.

He was born November 1, 1912, son of Alexander Karl and Paulina (Wagner) Berger in Sarnow, Poland. On May 31, 1941, he married Ottilie Otto in Warsaw, Poland. They lived in Poland and Germany until 1954 when they immigrated to the United States, first living in Pennsylvania. They moved to Detroit, Mich., in 1954 and lived there until moving to Greenville in 2006. Hugo worked as a machinist and retired from the Budd Company in 1977. He was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran church in Warren, Mich., where he enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in the Senior Citizens Group. In Greenville, he was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was a member of the UAW.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Johanna Kuryilo, Lydia Jaehn, and Natalie Lokstadt.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ottilie of Greenville; sons, Erwin Berger and wife, Audrey of Furlong, Pa,, and George Berger and wife, Margaret of Greenville; granddaughters, Erika Theofilou and husband, Nick of Athens, Greece, Christina Eggleston and husband, Andy of Endicott, N.Y., Monica Cox and husband, Mark of Rockwall, and Lisa Wright and husband, Allen of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Melita and George Theofilou, both of Athens, Greece, and Elizabeth Eggleston of Endicott, N.Y.

Pallbearers will be Andy Eggleston, Mark Cox, Allen Wright, Jim Raney, Norman Callies, and Mark Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Franz Weiding and Nick Theofilou.

Memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Peters Funeral Home.
