D. Lewis Johnson

Last rites for De Lewis Johnson, son of Mrs. D. L.Johnson of Celeste, aged about 38, are scheduled to be held at the James-Coker-Peters Funeral Chapel, Greenville, at 10:00 AM, October 30, 1953. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, east of Wolfe City.

Names pallbearers are J. W. Glasscock, Nolan Jones, Albert Granberry, Harl Hudson, Wesley Pierce, and Wallace Shields, all classmates of the deceased.

Mr. Johnson sustained a severe brain injury in an automobile accident in California on Saturday night, October 17, 1953. He passed away in a Sunnyvale, California hospital on Thursday afternoon of last week, October 22, 1953.

The body was scheduled to arrive from California about noon Thursday.

A 1936 Celeste High School graduate, Johnson was in the US Navy and had landed in California about two weeks ago. His wife who was with him at the time of the accident was uninjured.

His mother, upon being advised of his serious condition, flew to California from Dallas on Monday of last week.

Military rites were held in California.

Survivors include his wife and several children. He also has several sisters among whom are Mrs. Charles Stone of the White Rock community and Mrs. W. T. Connatser of Newton.
