COMMERCE — Joy Vernell Arthur, 71, of Rockwall, formerly of Commerce died Oct. 14, 2006, at her home. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Commerce with Father Chris Goers officiating. Burial follows in Rosemound Cemetery. The daughter of Joy Bernell and Hazel Edwards Gradick, she was born June 23, 1935, in Tyler. Mrs. Arthur retired from teaching at the Quinlan Independent School District. She enjoyed knitting, reading and socializing with friends. When she retired at the young age of 67, she worked in Grayson County Community College teaching young people how to pass the GED. Survivors are a daughter, Cynthia Lynn and Kim Lehew of Rockwall; a son, Noble Lee and Amy Arthur of North Carolina; grandchildren Chadwyck (Chad) Lehew, Josh Lehew, Blake Arthur, Jacob Arthur, and Brooke Arthur; and her companion, Molly the Maltese. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brooks Arthur, and by her parents. Pallbearers are Cole Hughes, Patrick Hughes, Chris Hughes, Scott Hughes, Austin Miller, Chris Cameron and Robert Miller.
