Martha Helen Waddle Brooks, 89, of San Antonio and formerly of Greenville, died Friday, July 14, 2006, at Freedom House in San Antonio. Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Jacobia Cemetery with Rev. Jim Goodwin officiating. Mrs. Brooks was born in Greenville on Aug. 28, 1916; the daughter of Roy C. and Eva Barker Waddle. She was married to Dr. Robert Haney Brooks on June 23, 1939, in Greenville. Her husband was a veteran and career officer in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a colonel and an Air Force physician. She was a homemaker and served with her husband in various duty stations around the world. Mrs. Brooks was raised a Methodist and graduated from Wesley College in 1936. Surviving are nephews James A. Creel of Fort Worth, John Keith Waddle of Corpus Christi and Roy Mason of Craig, Colo.; nieces, Martha Darwin of Fort Worth and Gina McDaniel of Corpus Christi; and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; brother, J.L. Waddle in 1987; sisters, Margaret Waddle Mason in 1986 and Theda Waddle Creel in 1995; and her parents. Donations may be made in Martha Helen Waddle Brooks’ name to the Freedom House, Air Force Village II Foundation, Attention: Development, 5100 John D. Ryan Boulevard, San Antonio, 78245. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
