HONEY GROVE — Nell Spencer Davis, 98, of Commerce, former Honey Grove resident, died Feb. 11, 2007, in Commerce. Services are at 2:30 p.m. today at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home chapel in Honey Grove with Rev. Ann Barton and Rev. Christopher Goers officiating.

Burial follows in Shiloh Cemetery near Honey Grove. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Jerry Spencer Davis Jr., Paul Cook, Gene Bailey, Larry Dobbs, Bob Wilkins and James Albert Dawson.

Born Sept. 10, 1908, in the Shiloh Community north of Honey Grove, she was the daughter of Ralph Jackson and Rebeca Mae McKissack Spencer. She was married to Luther T. Davis on Feb. 25, 1933, in Durant, Okla.

Mrs. Davis was a member of the Christian Church. While living in Honey Grove she taught Sunday school classes at McKenzie United Methodist Church. She received her teacher’s certificate from East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce, now known as Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Mrs. Davis taught school at Green’s Chapel and Allens Point communities for several years. She also taught Head Start in the Honey Grove ISD and was a homemaker.

Survivors are a daughter, Norma Jene Tessmer of Garland; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Spencer Davis and Dr. Vicki Davis of Campbell; and a grandson, Jerry Spencer Davis Jr. of Fayetteville, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her husband on March 16, 1973, and son-in-law Charles Tessmer.
