Ruby Ray Burkett, 92, of Greenville died Sept. 7, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shady Grove Baptist Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Rodney Williams and Rev. Benny Chaffin will officiate. Burial is in Shady Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Burkett was born July 30, 1914, in Greenville to Earnest Elwood and Mollie Prince Williams. She was married to James Cecil Burkett on June 11, 1929, in Dallas. Mrs. Burkett was retired from Greenville Independent School District’s food services. She had been a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church since 1947 where she worked with the WMU and as a Sunday school teacher. Surviving are a son, J.E. Burkett and wife Sally; a grandson, Harold Wayne Burkett and wife Renee of Greenville; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Myranette Reding of Sherman. She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 13, 1996; her parents; one sister, Velma Strickland; a daughter-in-law, Louise Burkett; and granddaughter Pam Burkett. Pallbearers are Tom McAllister, Jearl Dunavin, Mike Heines, Aaron G. Williams, Harry Garlington and Jimmy Babb. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
