Curtis Lawton Smith
Funeral services were held at Dulaney on Thursday afternoon, April 14, 1948, for Curtis Lawton (Laughton) Smith, 42, who died early Wednesday, April 13, 1948, at his home on RR 2, Celeste.
Elder W. W. Fowler of Dallas conducted the services and burial was in Dulaney Cemetery.
Mr. Smith, the son of B. F. Smith and Mae Bell Kuykendall Smith, was born on January 10, 1906, and had lived in and around Celeste all his life. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. He was married to Comora Sims on July 16, 1927.
Survivors are his wife; five children, Benjamin Harrison Smith, Claudine Smith, Curtis Laughton (Lawton) Smith, Jr., Thomas Murray Smith, and David Manuel Smith; five brothers, Lewis Smith of Farmersville, Tom Smith, Oral Smith, Hartwell Smith, and Vernon Smith of Celeste; three sisters, Mrs. Melba Duncan of Leonard, Mrs. Nettie Mae Thompson of Vernonia, and Mrs. Wilma Thorp of Celeste; his mother, Mrs. Mae Smith; and numerous other relatives.
