Steve H. Adams

Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, June 27, 1950, at the Tidwell Baptist Church for Steve H. Adams, 79, prominent Hunt County retired farmer who died on Sunday afternoon, June 25, 1950, at 5:10 PM.

Mr. Adams died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. M. Bench, in the White Rock community.

Rites were conducted by the Rev. W. A. Rudd of Savoy, the Rev. Adkins, pastor of the White Rock Methodist Church, and the Rev. Bunch, pastor of the Tidwell Baptist Church. Burial followed in Tidwell Cemetery.

Grandson acted as pallbearers. They included Clarence Adams, Douglas Yancey, Curtis Bench, S. D. Shields, Billy Sam Jones, and Jimmy Adams.

The Gray-Ballard-Sorrells Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Adams' death followed an illness of three years duration. He had been ill since suffering a stroke.

Born in Dolton, Georgia, on July 7, 1870, he left that state fifty-seven years ago to come to Texas. He settled in Hunt County and had made his home in Tidwell and Celeste since that time. During his active years, he was a successful farmer, employing modern agricultural practices, and took an interest in activities designed to better his community.

Mr. Adams had been a member of the Methodist Church at Kingston for thirty years. He was married first to Emma Frances Payne who died in 1902. He was later married to Fannie Gregory who succumbed on January 8, 1935.

His survivors include nine children, Mrs. Bench and Virgil H. Adams of Denton, Mrs. D. F. Shields of Caddo Mills, Albert Adams of Denton, Ernest Adams of Tulsa, Luther Adams, Mrs. Jettie Norris, and Mrs. Lillian Jones of Greenville; and James Adams of New London, Texas; three step-children, Mrs. Lena Washburn of Greenville, Mrs. Dallas Sowell of Dallas, and Mrs. Eva Braziel of Teague, Texas; twenty-two grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
