COMMERCE — Funeral services for Tommie Linden Arnold, 74, of Commerce will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, at First Baptist Church, with Brother Johnnie Henderson officiating.

Interment will be in Rosemound Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Arnold died Dec. 12, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

He was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Commerce to Larnce Arnold and Lola Mae Kelly Arnold.

Tommie attended school in Commerce until 1944, when he had to rapidly change into a man a the age of 12 to care for his parents’ needs. He met a man who taught him the trade of paint and body. He took his work very seriously because this was a way to take care of his family. In 1951 Tommie joined the United States Navy. He was aboard the U.S.S. Fletcher during the Korean War, where he proudly served his country. In 1955 he was honorably discharged from the Navy and returned to Commerce in 1957. He married Mildred “Millie” Hanes on July 12, 1957, in Dallas. They continued their life in Commerce, started a family, and he continued working as a body man. Life was not always easy for Tommie; however he was always happy. For the love of his family is what kept him this way. It would take far too many words to tell the greatness of this man. He was loved by many and will be forever missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Mildred Arnold, of Commerce; children, Tammie Jo Lowrie and husband, Reese, of Cumby; Davy Lin Arnold of Commerce; grandson, Ryan Evans and wife, Tiffany, of Commerce; bonus grandchildren, Josh Lowrie and Lisa Baker, and bonus great-grandchildren, Autumn Price, Dani Baker and Dakota Baker; one sister, Pat Ross of Haslet; brothers-in-law Fred Jones and Glyn Ross, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty Pearl Jones; and one brother, Jack Lewis Arnold. Pallbearers include Stevie Arnold, Jackie Arnold, Les Arnold, Billy Arnold, Bobby Jones and Larry Jones.

Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Arnold, Stan Brewer, Kevin Brewer, Shane Arnold, Kurt Arnold and Cory Jones.
