ADAM, CARL HEINRICH CHRISTIAN

Carl Heinrich Christian Adam was born November 20, 1832, in Tiefenbach, Germany. He arrived in Galveston November 20, 1854, on the ship Franziska and went from there to Kendall County. He was described as a Freethinker who, distrusted organized religion. In Boerne on November 8, 1856, he married Bertha Wendler. He was one of the original signers of the petition to create Kendall County in 1859. He lived about one mile from Boerne on Johns Road. He butchered cattle out of the back of his wagon and was helped in his work by his brother, Conrad. The 1870 census lists him as a farmer, age 37, with $400 worth of real estate and $450 worth of personal property.
He died in 1879 at the age of 47, leaving his wife, Bertha Augusta Elizabeth Wendler Adam and six children. Bertha, the daughter of Carl August Wendler and Katherine Elizabeth Koch, had arrived in Texas with her parents in 1855 and married Carl the following year. - submitted by Royce Adam Maltsberger.
