KNEUPPER, (CHRISTIAN) HOUSE,
2 mi East of Kendalia, off of F.M. 473

HISTORY: Christian Kneupper was born in New Braunfels, Texas in 1858 to Johann and Appolonia Kneupper who had immigrated to America from Germany in 1854. Johann started a General Store in Twin Sisters a small community near the Guadalupe River in eastern Kendall County. Christian grew up in the small community as did his wife, Anna Koch. They were married in 1883 and had six children. This house where the family lived was built in 1883. Its beginning was a two-room cedar log and rock cabin. As the family increased and grew, so did the two-room cabin. Two rooms were added to the East side of the house and an upstairs was added. The upstairs served as the boys' sleeping quarters with grain storage area toward the back. When two of the sons married, in 1916, there were three families living in this four room house, with a porch now built across the South side. In 1919, a child was born to each of the sons, and more room was needed. another house was built for George and Minnie, and Charley and Ida remained in the old house. Part of the open porch across the southwest was then closed in for extra room. The house is still occupied by members of the Kneupper family.
