Hattie Ray Benson - Died 24 June 2009 – Walters Funeral Home

Funeral services for Hattie Ray Benson, age 95, of Pearland and formerly of Centerville were held at 1 PM Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Centerville. Rev. Leroy Haynes officiated and burial was in Seale Cemetery in the Redland Community west of Centerville. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Floyzell Murphy, Robert Brown, Darrell Dozer, Thomas Benson, Carl Gould and George Murphy served as pallbearers.

Hattie Ray Benson was born in Centerville, Texas on July 17, 1913. She lived almost her entire life in and near Centerville. She moved to Pearland in 1995 live with one of her daughters. She was a longtime member of the South Salem Baptist Church in the South Salem Community west of Centerville. Hattie Ray married Clyde Benson in 1931. They had seven children. Mr. Clyde was a farmer and Hattie Ray helped him with the farm work and was also the homemaker of the home. They worked hard. Hattie Ray Benson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, L.T. Perkins and Zeb Holleman; four sisters, Dorothy Williams, Viola Becks, Lonie Bell Parks and “Big Baby” and by three sons, Mack Benson, Charles Herbert Benson and Robert Lee Benson. Hattie Ray passed away on June 24, 2009 in Houston.

Surviving family members include a son, Fred Douglas Benson and his wife, Gerraine, of Dallas and three daughters, Frances Brown of Houston, Tevoise Silmon and her husband, Robert, of Dallas and Lewise Jo Lacey and her husband, Lawrence Perry, of Pearland. There are also numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
