Geographical Information

From February 8, 1860 until March 16, 1896, Greer Co TX included all of the present day Greer Co OK, Jackson Co OK, Harmon Co OK and parts of present day Beckham Co OK, Lipscomb Co TX, Hemphill Co TX, Wheeler Co TX, Collingsworth Co TX and Childress Co TX.

After the boundaries between Texas and Oklahoma were finally defined by a ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1896, Greer Co TX disappeared and was replaced by the smaller counties on the Texas side and the land on the Oklahoma side designated simply as Indian Territory. A formal act in 1898 divided the Indian Territory into smaller areas and the portion that had formerly been Greer Co TX became Greer Co Oklahoma Territory. On November 19, 1907 Oklahoma became the 46th state in the Union and all places formerly called Indian Territory became simply Oklahoma.

So before 1896 Eldorado, Oklahoma was actually in Greer County, Texas. From 1898 until Nov 1907, Eldorado, Oklahoma was in Greer County, Oklahoma Territory. After Nov 1907 Eldorado was in Jackson County, Oklahoma.
