  • Martha given to Catherine Matthews 29 Jan 1850 by her father Richard Golden. She appears on the 1870 Census, along with her husband John Golden, in Household # 1359-1359, only two houses away from Dr. Thomas Golden (unknown if Thomas was the son of Mace or Henry Golden). She is shown as being 35 years of age and having been born in AL.

Note: Although the Gift Deed of 1858 shows that Richard Golden gave the slave Matilda to his daughter Mary Jane Taylor, both Taylors were dead by the end of the Civil War and emancipation. On the 1870 Census there was no black female by the name of Matilda living in the households near to Richard Golden.
