Dennis Chappell Hill, Discharge Papers
Dennis Chappell Hill was a 2nd Lieutenant of the Confederate Army, Co E, 17th Texas Calvary (Moore's Regiment). He joined on Feb. 26, 1862 and was discharged on Oct. 22, 1862 ."I certify that I have carefully examined Liet Dennis C. Hill of Capt. Tuckers company Taylor's Regiment and find him incapable of performing the duties of his office because of a severe attack of typhoid fever in June last from which he has never entirely recovered and having chronic dysentery every since and also because of an incised wound in the left-side just above the diaphragm causing much difficulty in breathing. I therefore recommend that his resignation be accepted and he be discharged from service. Signed A.C. Sherman (?) surgeon"
