Distinguished Gary Physician
The Late Dr. Z. L. Daniel
One of Panola County's most illustrious sons is the late Dr Z L Daniel of Gary. The good doctor was one of the most loved and revered men ever to live in our county. Not only was he a great healer of the ill and afflicted, going at all hours, through sleet, storm or dust storm over cow trails and rock ribbed or muddy roads, but he was everything to all his people. He was doctor, merchant, confident [sic], friend, and loyal neighbor. He fought constantly for diversified farming for the people of his community. He personally sponsored and brought about the tomato industry there. He was a staunch church member and a pillar in his church. He was a man of true greatness and of noble stature.
His lovely widow resides in the old home place at Gary and carries on in her church and community work.

[Webmaster's note: Zach Daniel was born 22 Jun 1872, in Texas, died 18 Nov 1952, in Carthage, and is buried at Gary Cemetery. He married Maude Duboise on 3 Jul 1900, in Panola County. He is the son of Theophilus B Daniel and Saletha Morris.]
