Brushy School
aka Harmony School

The History of Panola County, published in 1979 by the Panola County Historical Commission

The school district which borders on Brushy Creek, was created and defined as Brushy School #34 in 1908. It was rated in 1912 as an Intermediate School. In June 1913, the County Board gave it the same classification. Mr. Holmes said in 1912 that it needed improvement.

At some time, about 1932, the district became known as Harmony Common School District #34. The school apparently operated as Harmony until it voted consolidation.

On August 25, 1947, the Court considered the returns of an election held on August 23, 1947 in Harmony Common School District #34 for the purpose of determining whether or not a majority of the legally qualified voters of the Harmony Common School District # 34 felt the school should be consolidated with Gary Consolidated School District #27. The election was declared in favor of consolidation with Gary and Judge W. J. Merrell made the official declaration.
