Liberty Cemetery, 1859,
This cemetery is located in the southwest quadrant of Red River
County, Texas. GPS COORDINATES: Datum WGS84: 33 Deg 36.099N,
95 Deg 13.765W. To reach Liberty Cemetery from Detroit take Hwy
82 east about two miles to the intersection with CR 1215. Turn
south or right onto CR 1215 and go 2.4 miles to the intersection
with CR 1267. Take CR 1267 right for 8/10 miles to the intersection
with CR 1265, Take CR 1265 right or south for 7/10 miles and
the cemetery is on the left. A deed dated 5 Jul 1859 transfers
a tract from Isaac Guest to the Liberty Church and School and
filed for record on 6 May 1859. Another deed made on 28 Nov 1910
and filed for record on 30 Nov 1910 in Book CH Vol 67 Page 420
transfers 1.25 acres of the J. C. Brown survey from Isaac Guest
et ux to Liberty Cemetery. The oldest marked grave is that of
Pollie Guest who died in 1859. This cemetery was surveyed by
Lawrence and Sue Dale on 23 Jan 1999. In the interests of quality
control, this cemetery was re walked in its entirety on 3 August
2001 on a HOT morning. We again visited here on 21 Jan 2003 to
take the GPS Coordinates. We also did a re walk of the cemetery
adding new burials and noting marker changes."
