Smith Family Cemetery,
17 Oct 1989,"This cemetery is located in the northwest quadrant
of Red River County, Texas. GPS COORDINATES: Datum WGS84: 33
Deg 41.146N, 95 Deg 09.941W, El 507 ft. This cemetery is for
members of the family only. It is about two miles north of Bagwell
and behind the house in the pasture just at the edge of the woods.
The oldest burial is for James R. Smith, Jr. who was originally
interred in Blanton Creek Cemetery. After seeing that the burial
site was low lying, his wife started the proceedings and a portion
of land was dedicated for cemetery usage. Shortly after this
was completed, a grandson was killed in a traffic accident and
he was also interred in the family cemetery. This cemetery was
surveyed by Lawrence and Sue Dale on 8 Feb 1999. We returned
to the site on 11 Jan 2004 to take the GPS coordinates. While
there Lottie Smith expressed a desire to have the land for the
cemetery 'set aside' and we explained the procedure to her."
