COGDELL, DUKE, NORFLEET posted by Joann Rhome Herring on Monday, November 2, 1998

DUKE, W. E. born around 1815 in Tennessee. His name may be Woodson E. DUKE with perhaps a brother named Pleasant DUKE. Woodson E. DUKE arrived in Texas May of 1836 probably Bowie County. He is found on the 1850 census married to someone other than Sarah (Perhaps NORFLEET) and with a 2 month old child. The Bowie County 1860 census show W. E. DUKE married to Sarah with Lucy NORFLEET DUKE (COGDELL) who was born in Bowie County January 1858. W. E. DUKE apparently married Sarah (perhaps NORFLEET) around 1858 probably in Bowie Co, Texas. If W. E. is Woodson, then this would be another marriage. By 1870, W. E. DUKE was in Red River County. Another daughter Fanny was born in 1861 but I do not know where. I do not believe she lived to adulthood. I am trying to figure out who W. E. DUKE is - hoping he is Woodson DUKE. Anyone have any information, please email me. LEAR, MAYES posted by Dianne Mayes Hamilton on Wednesday, November 25, 1998

I'm researching Joseph Wallace MAYES(dob 1873) and his wife Martha Susan LEAR Mayes(dob 1854). This family came to your area from Todd County, Kentucky around 1878. They brought 2 sons with them, born in Kentucky. (1) Charlie Hutchings MAYES(dob 1873) (2) Dink MAYES(dob 1877). They had 3 daughters after they settled here.(1) Lydia J. MAYES(dob 1879) (2) Nora Mayes(dob 1879) (3) Callie Dona MAYES( dob 1890). Joseph is buried in Titus County at Center Grove Cemetery( dod Nov 2, 1919). Martha Susan is buried in Red River County at Aiken Grove Cemetery(dod Nov 1918). I have been fortunate in my search to have located " family" also searching, through the "sister" page of this one, in Todd County, Kentucky. Because of her generousity in sharing information, I now have the LEAR family back to the Revolutionary War. This "fellow searcher" is a descendant from Thomas Jackson MAYES( dob 1849) a brother to Joseph Wallace. An interesting fact is these two brothers married sisters. Thomas married Mary Ann (Pollie)LEAR( dob 1850). I know there are lots of Mayes in the Bogata area and would love to hear from you. And...if you would happen to know the name of Joseph and Thomas's parents, I would be eternally grateful! I plan on coming to Bogata before the first of the year, to visit family and do some "research". If you know this family, I'll really like to hear from you. Wishing all of you a blessed and safe Thanksgiving. Dianne Mayes Hamilton widow of Roy Wayne MAYES 1941-1990 mother of Craig Allison MAYES 1972-1997

This sibling would have probably been born sometime in the 1930's, around the Stephens County area, & the last anything was heard, which was many years ago, he was in the Velma, Okla. area. We've also been told (don't know for sure) he is a coach of some kind, somewhere. If any of this rings a bell with you or anyone, please send me an E-mail at kshill@hotmail.com. Thank you very much. BEATY, LESLIE, ROGERS, RUSSOM posted by Jeri Lynn Reed on Saturday, November 28, 1998

I am trying to find more information on my great- grandmother's family. Her parents were Charles W. Leslie and Margaret Beaty ROGERS. Her father is remembered only as "Dr. ROGERS" and was supposed to to live in the Clarksville area. She would have been born in the 1840s-1860s and was born in Texas Charles W. LESLIE was supposed to have been born in Arkansas. They were married in Clarksville around 1880, probably on marriage certificate C.W. LESLIE and Maggie B. ROGERS. I believe her mother's name may have been Beaty, but we don't know anything about her. She is supposed to have had a cousin that became a senator, and I have seen a BEATY listed in an old 1910 newspaper who was a judge in Red River County, could be him. They later moved to Whitesboro in Grayson County where my great-grandmother, Leila Leslie RUSSOM was born in 1884. All of the family as far as I know were tenant farmers, except for the senator and "Dr. ROGERS".
