Seth Rogers Davenport

From the June 9, 2006 issue of the Terrell County News-Leader, page 2:

UVALDE - Funeral services were last week here for Seth Rogers Davenport, 89, of Uvalde, a former Sanderson resident, who died May 26, 2006, at his home here. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Davenport was born on September 21, 1916, in Rocksprings and married Phyllis Beatrice Nichols in Sanderson in 1940.

A fifth-generation Texan, he graduated from Texas A&M University in 1938 where he was a walk-on football player. He joined the US Army and served as commanding officer of Co. B, 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, and took part in the D-Day invasion and the Battle of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

Davenport was a rancher and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Uvalde for some 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Davenport of Uvalde, a daughter, Phyllis Jo and Col. Edgar Habeck of Georgetown, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
