Carroll Lee Eggleston

From the July 28, 2006 issue of the Terrell County News-Leader, page 2:

ODESSA - Funeral services were Monday here for Carroll Lee Eggleston, 68, of Odessa, who died Thursday, July 20, 2006, at Medical Center Hospital. Rev. Byron McWilliams and Rev. Johnny Young officiated.

He was a Sanderson High School graduate and a brother of Lacey James of Dryden.

Carroll was born to Eliza and Vada Sommers Eggleston on January 15, 1938, in Gatesville. He received his Bachelor and Masters degrees from North Texas State University. He then pursued a career in teaching and coaching at schools in Knox City, Frisco, Bridgeport, Anton, Sanderson, and Wink. He was also a sports writer for the Wink Bulletin for several years.

Carroll was active in his church, teaching Sunday School, serving as Deacon and serving on church committees. He was named Lion of the Year of the Odessa Downtown Lions Club.

Besides James, Carroll also is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joan McGill Eggleston of Odessa; one son, Steve and Lisa Eggleston of Andrews; one daughter, Karen and Jim Bryant of Midland; two brothers, Phillip Eggleston of Devine and George Eggleston of Natalia; one other sister, Nancy Frizzell of Sweetwater and six grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to the Odessa Downtown Lion's Club Children's Diabetes Camp or First Baptist Church of Odessa.

Services were by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
