Tackett, Russell Junior Feb. 26, 1924 - Sept. 26, 2007 GILMER - Graveside services for Russell Junior Tackett will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2007, at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer, with Steve Dugger officiating, under the direction of Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer. Junior was born February 26, 1924, in Idabel, Oklahoma, to George P. Tackett and Virgie Stevens Tackett. He passed from this life on Wednesday, September 26, 2007, at the age of 83 years and seven months. On June 19, 1948, he married Mildred Causey, and they celebrated 59 years of marriage this June. Junior proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Air Force with the 41st Air Depot Repair Squadron stationed in parts of Italy and Africa. He was a longtime resident of Gilmer, working for Lone Star Steel Co., Dean Lumber Co. and Precincts One and Two. He enjoyed spending time in his shop working on tractors and cars. On any day, you could find him in overalls with a smudge or two of grease and a smile because he enjoyed life. He was a member of Indian Rock Baptist Church of Gilmer. He was a very compassionate man and was always willing to lend a hand to help others. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Doyle Tackett; and his son, Mark Tackett. He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred of Gilmer; daughter, Janice and husband, Al Walker of Ore City; daughter-in-law, Lajuana Tackett of Gilmer; granddaughters, Cindi and husband, Theron Turner, and Nina Walker of Ore City; grandson, Clifford Tackett and wife, Kristy of Gilmer; great-grandsons, Nathan and Ben Turner of Ore City; and great- granddaughter, Ava Tackett of Gilmer. He loved his family and enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of his life.
