Vercher, Barbara Richardson A graveside memorial service for Barbara Richardson Vercher, 59, of Alvarado, Texas, will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2006, in the Old East Mountain Cemetery, with Brother Victor Norman, Brother Wayne Haney, and the Rev. Wayne Spanhanks officiating, under the direction of Welch Funeral Home. Mrs. Vercher passed away July 16, 2006, at her home. She was born December 3, 1946, to Bennie and Esker Richardson. Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Esker Richardson, in 2000; and her brother, Danny Joe, in 1941. Barbara Vercher received a certificate of mid-management from Tarrant County College in Fort Worth. With her specialization in mid-management, she began her career in human resources, working at Machined Parts of Fort Worth and the J.C. Penney Co. in Arlington. On May 28, 1991, she began working at Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth, serving as the director of human resources from November 18, 1991-present. Through the years at Goodwill Industries, Barbara R. Vercher was greatly loved and respected by many people. Being a very caring person, she greatly enjoyed giving herself to all people, especially those that were disabled and less able to assist themselves. She strongly believed that everyone should have an opportunity in life; therefore, she would work diligently with the disabled to insure their correct placement on jobs according to their unique skills and special interests. She would monitor progress, give words of encouragement, and counsel in the time of need. Barbara Vercher was a member of Springhill Baptist Church and an active member of the Fort Worth Founder Lions Club for many years. She served in the capacity of vice president, president, and lion tamer. She greatly enjoyed coming up with different ideas to add greater enjoyment for all club members. She loved the Lions Club; perhaps her deep appreciation stemmed from her father having served in the Lions Club for many years. With great exuberance, she assisted in the collection of tens of thousands of used eyeglasses for the Lions' Committee for Eyeglasses. It gave her great satisfaction to know many people were being assisted with glasses. Barbara Vercher is survived by her husband, Willie E. Vercher of Alvarado; her mother, Bennie Richardson of Longview; her sister, Brenda Springer and husband, Scott, of Callahan; her niece, Jessica Springer of Fort Worth; her nephew, Will Springer and wife, Carmon, and their child, Adena, of Kingsville; her step-son, Jeff Vercher; step-grandson, Cody Vercher; and step-granddaughter, Emily Vercher of Fort Worth. Barbara Vercher is to be cremated, and her remains interred alongside her father's gravesite in Longview. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2006, in the Garden Room at Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth at 4005 Campus Drive in Fort Worth, TX 76119.
