Comments: Additional children in second file. Notes on Wiley B. Nelson's family: Nelson, Wiley and Scarbrough, Narcissa were married by James C. Coleman, JP (Coleman worked with Methodist and Baptist churches in the area of Muscogee and Chattahoochee Counties of Georgia. He "kept a tavern at the Mill House" where travellers liked to stay. (p.91) He also gave land
to the Methodist Episcopal Church to build after the old church located in Ft.Benning required them to move....p.92. Source: N K Rogers: A History of Chattahoochee County. His parents, Jesse and Susan Wall became members at Mt. Gilead Church Jan. 26, 1833. p.80 same source. Wiley, along with some of his cousins, left Georgia to seek land in Covington County, Alabama about 1860. He returned to Georgia to be married to Narcessa who was living with his mother Susan. He joined the
militia in Alabama and then served in Company I, 40th Alabama Infantry, beginning May 14, 1862 in Mobile. He fought at Vicksburg and was paroled and then returned to serve in other areas of the South and was last paroled in North Carolina at the end of war. According to Walter Nelson, the food Wiley had at Vicksburg was pea soup and bread and dirty water. He and others had difficulty getting water because of leaving the trenches in direct line of fire. He moved to Texas in 1873 and later requested and received a pension from the State Of Texas because of disabilties. Narcessa would later receive a pension.
