Cities and Towns

There is only one incorporated city in Brewster County - Alpine. Marathon is the 2nd largest community and is not incorporated. (G) stands for Gost town - a town that no longer has enough people around to consider it a community.

Keep in mind that Brewster County is BIG; it's 80 miles through desert and small mountains from Study Butte to Alpine. (From Brewster's most northerly point to its most southerly is 120 miles.)

Another point to consider is that most of its early settlers lived on the ranches rather than in towns.
