San Mateo Cemetery was established on March 23, 1964. The family decided to start their own cemetery in Mateo Longoria Ranch 'La Escuadra' when he died. Mateo Longoria was the third and youngest son of Ponciano Longoria and Maria Rita Villarreal. The tomb of Mateo Longoria and his wife Sabina Soliz was the first tomb in the cemetery. Sabina S. Longoria's sister Juanita S. Villarreal and her husband Daniel Villarreal are also buried in San Mateo Cemetery. They are the only ones who aren't immediate family. Sabina and her sister Juanita were married in a double wedding on July 21, 1915 in La Grulla, Texas.
