From A History of Coleman County
and Its People, 1985 edited by Judia and Ralph Terry, and
Vena Bob Gates - used by permission --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 1927, Geo. D. and Gladys
Rhone came to Coleman where he began
buying grain and cotton. Their two
sons, Don and John were born here.
In 1931, Geo. D. bought a building west of
the courthouse, and put in a feed store
and wool warehouse. The sons worked
in the store after school until
graduation; both went to college, married,
served in the army, and returned to
Coleman, becoming partners with their
father.
Today, the Geo.
D. Rhone Co. Hardware store carries a
large selection of appliances and
televisions, hardware, air conditioners,
livestock supplies, plumbing and
insecticides. The Rhone elevator was
sold in 1983.
The Rhone
families, Don and Patsy, John and Joyce,
are proud to have been a part of Coleman
County during the past 57 years.
